Calculus is one of the most misunderstood of mathematical disciplines.
Calculus is the study of how things change. It provides a framework for modeling systems in which there is change and gives a way to deduce the predictions of such models.
A great math experience comes from a place where the student’s questions are valued and pathways are forged. No place is this more true than when one enters the arena of Calculus.
Calculus – The GayleTutors Way
We, at GayleTutors, begin any Calculus instruction by ensuring your student that they, personally, can conquer Calculus.
How we do it better.
One thing that sets us apart from other higher-level math tutorial programs is our proven ability to analyze the strengths that your student already possesses and to use our relational component to build on those while enabling your student to grasp an understanding of work being done in the classroom. All of this is done minus the excessive need for worksheets during the remedial process.
What we do better
An Algebra and Trigonometry assessment is administered. It is well known that many students suffer unnecessarily in Calculus because of weak Algebra and Trigonometry skills. Factoring, especially Special Factoring, is assessed. Completing the square, Basic Functions and the Transformation of the Functions, Formula Manipulation, and calculator use need to be mastered as one enters Calculus.
Basic Trigonometric skills covered are Sketching Basic Trigonometric Functions and their transformations, Memorizing the three trig functions for special angles. Student needs to understand relationship between trig functions and different quadrants. Your child’s scope of understanding is deepened while he/she maintains contact with the concepts being covered in class.
Our skilled Calculus tutors will explore these concepts in your student’s learning style, using varied modalities, in an encouraging and supportive atmosphere. We collaborate with, complement, and supplement the instruction developed by the classroom teacher. Our program is aimed at the high school or college student who will benefit from the self-acquisition of knowledge for better academic performance.
The GayleTutors Calculus Practicum
Our Calculus tutors will focus on making connections with underlying Algebraic ideas and progress to the more advanced Calculus concepts. We begin a study of the change in y coordinates approaching zero and x coordinates approaching zero. We provide a knowledge base where students use software to explore and develop specific concepts.
Depending on the needs of the student and the demands of the specific class syllabus, GayleTutors will design a program that supplements and deepens the student understanding of the topics they are currently learning.
Sample 4-week block:
- Week One: Assessment of skills, review of current homework, tests, etc. Identify strengths, and weaknesses.
- Week Two: Begin foundational skills explanation, assign relevant homework (or use homework assigned by classroom teacher)
- Week Three: Assess homework, identify areas of needs, review concepts, deeper explanations.
- Week Four: Assess progress, review concepts, confer with parent
Why Calculus Tutoring
Calculus is a doorway to opportunity. The discipline provides a way to construct relatively simple quantitative models of change and to deduce their consequences. Upon mastery, your student will receive the ability to find the effects of changing conditions on the system being investigated. Our calculus tutors will help your student learn how to control the system to make it do what he/she wants it to do.
Some career options for those who matriculate through the calculus discipline are as follows:
all fields of engineering, i.e., astronautical engineer, earthquake safety engineer, nuclear engineering. Also, pharmaceutical scientists; electrical technology; medical professions; natural science professions; real estate; purchasing professions use calculations, just to name a few.
About Our Calculus Tutors
At GayleTutors, our Calculus tutors are carefully chosen. Many have advanced degrees in their related fields. However, knowledge, without the ability to impart that knowledge, is of little use to the learner. Therefore, our tutors are carefully screened for relatability and the ability to transfer knowledge of difficult concepts in a way that causes minimal stress on the part of your student.
